RECOVERY TECH AND TOOLS

IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)

Is a method of using medical grade steel tools for the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries or pain.

We use these tools to mechanically affect soft tissues much like deep tissue massage to reduce musculoskeletal aches and pains as well as improve overall mobility. As well as passively by affecting our brain via the nervous system.

Unlike the traditional IASTM model which is very tissue based, we at ARM also use IASTM for Neuro Sensory Modulation. This method affects soft tissue through local sensory input by stimulating mechanoreceptors which may affect our nervous system to reduce sensation of pain, make us move better and or move with greater strength.

Another way we use IASTM is by improving facial glide rather than the traditional belief that we are changing the facial structures by applying a considerable amount of pressure which more recent studies show that it takes at least 140kg of pressure to change a square centimeter of facia. We don’t think anyone would want that much pressure applied to them during a treatment.

Benefits of IASTM includes:

  • Increase Range of Motion

  • Reduce Muscle Tension

  • Reduce Pain

  • Assist with scarring (post surgery)

  • Improve tissue glide

  • Stimulate Healing

  • Reduce swelling

  • Assist in improving Motor Dysfunction (poor motor control)

Myofascial Cupping

Is a form of manual therapy using rubber, plastic, or glass suction cups to create negative pressure to create a lift or separation of our soft tissue to promote glide and slide of facial structures.

Unlike the method of traditional cupping with the purpose of removing stagnation or toxins in the body. At ARM we use cupping as a tool to treat musculoskeletal issues by using cupping in combination with clients movement (active) or by moving the cups to create facial glide (passive).

Benefits of Myofascial Cupping includes:

  • Reducing Pain and Inflammation

  • Improving Range of Motion

  • Reduce Fascial Restriction

  • Induce Relaxation

  • Promote Healing and Recovery
