MANUAL THERAPY
Manual Therapy
A hands on treatment used based on clients specific needs to help reduce pain and improve movement.
Manual therapy techniques we use includes Massage therapy techniques, Myofascial work, Cupping, IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization), Soft tissue flossing and joint mobilizations.
So, what are the differences between different types of manual therapy that we use?
Remedial Massage Therapy
Remedial massage therapy, as its name suggests, aims to provide ‘remedy’ by using combinations of techniques with the aim of treating musculoskeletal dysfunctions that can restrict movement and cause pain.
During your initial appointment, you will go through a series of assessments to help us develop an individualized treatment specific to your needs so that you can have the best possible outcome.
These treatments can include soft tissue therapy, joint mobilizations, cupping, IASTM, MLD, and more in conjunction with corrective exercise prescription.
At ARM we believe that each individual is unique and the treatment should be unique to them as well, instead of a cookie cutter approach.
Benefits includes:
reduced pain
reduced swelling from injury or surgery
reduced Hypertonicity (tightness)
increased mobility and/or range of motion
correct muscle imbalances
gain confidence with movement
Sports Performance Therapy
just like remedial therapy but targets athletes and sport individuals to help prepare the body before activity, as well as post event recovery.
Benefits includes:
enhanced performance
increased mobility/ range of motion
reduced DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)
aids in recovery and treatment of injuries
reduced pain and swelling
Relaxation Massage
is a form of massage using smooth, gentle strokes and rhythmic movement with the aim of inducing a general sense of relaxation.
Benefits includes:
relaxation
stress relief
increase circulation
reduce muscle tension
Joint mobilization
is used with the aim of optimizing joint motion by increasing mobility of joints exhibiting excessive stiffness or reduced range of movement
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Is a form of manual therapy that aims to help the lymphatic flow in the body which can help reduce swelling from acute injury or post surgery as well as aid in the body’s immune function.
